5.0 OS Bug Doesn’t Play Nice with BlackBerry Themes
Yeah, so we have been getting flooded with emails about issues with the new 5.0 OS upgrade that Verizon customers and assuredly more have encountered. Some blogs have addressed the issue so we needed to as well. As you can see from the picture above, this is wack. If I ran 5.0, which eventually I will, I would be mighty pissed. RIM is aware of this issue and did say they should have this fixed by the BlackBerry Developers Conference. That is November 9-12, 2009. Interesting, November 9 is when themes are suppose to start showing up in App World.
I am curious if there is a corelation. I won’t speculate but you can. At the end of the day, while this is a seriously unfortunate circumstance we must make a clarification. This is not a THEME issue, it’s an OS Issue. Our suggestion if you value your themes is to downgrade back to your previous stable OS and ride it out while enjoying your killer themes(that you got here of course), and in my opinion not only wait till R.I.M. officially announces it but that someone actually reports that it is actually fixed!

While it is annoying, I can manage with the flaw for a couple weeks. I like the text chat feature so much better than the previous OS. Ill keep it and my theme and just deal.
Its not that much of a big deal because first of all the only problem that i have is when my storm is in landscape the main menu messes up like in the above picture. Other than that the phone works perfectly fine in landscape in all other apps such as bb maps, sms, mms, internet, and every other menu option. Its JUST the main menu that has a problem! I can ride out the problem till RIM fixes it. Other than that I LOVE the new OS its faster, everything loads up faster including the camera, video, music, pictures, bb maps. I also love the new layout for text messages. Its great and all in all its a HUGE! improvement from 4.7 at least i think because my phone was seriously starting to get on my nerves but now it feels a whole lot better and runs smoother!
First and foremost this fix does work but it has to be done each time you change your theme or your wallpaper.
Step 1. Change to the theme you would like to use.
Step 2. Change your wallpaper to a new wallpaper of your choice
Step 3. After changing your wallpaper, navigate to options, then to Themes. You will notice a blue box next to your active theme. Tap on the box and you will be taken to an options screen.
Step 4. Once you open the theme options change it from 2 rows to 1 row. It will ask you to save. Go ahead and save it but do not back out of the screen. After you save change it back to 2 rows and save again.
Your theme should now operate as normally intended. This may seem a bit complicated but once you do it, I’m sure you will understand
Bryan is a genius!
This simple fix works! Thanks a million!
