If you travel enough, you have probably been stiffed by some hotel charging an outrageous price of $9.95 or worse ( I’ve paid $14.99 a day) for 24 hour access to wifi. Every single time it happens, I feel like I have just eaten brussel sprouts after being told I would get ice cream.

So my friend Laura who is my Verizon PR person sent me the wonderful Mifi from Verizon and the timing could not have been better. I was trapped in another situation where I was about to get hosed by a hotel that shall remain nameless. But I decided to test out my test copy of the Mifi and it was wonderful.

It was easy to set up on both my Windows and Mac laptops even though the Mac didn’t work the first couple of times. I plugged up the USB and the manager came on with virtually no hiccups. With about 15 seconds of time to load, this beauty worked great. The speeds I got were around 1950 kbps download and upload speeds close to 400 kbps. However, since you can synch up to 5 computers, speeds will decrease the more computers are online. No need to concern yourself about Battery life because you can always plug it in. I tested it next in the car, and it was surprisingly fast even while I was in the passenger seat.

In conclusion, I can’t really say that I like the usb dongles or air cards, but the mifi is right up my alley. Prices are a little steep for the monthly but if you travel alot, this will probably be the more economical choice. Check out some of the Black Friday deals and you can bag this baby for cheap. I highly recommend it.
