It's all looking good now for RIM eh? I mean it has to be a sign of good things when RIM releases the BlackBerry Playbook SDK this far in advance. Not only that but every developer that submits an app and it is approved, gets a free BlackBerry Playbook.

Correction: After listening to the Adobe MAX conference, it appears that each person that gets an app approved prior to launch will be eligible for a free Playbook. Here is the clarification from RIM.

"RIM announced at Adobe MAX that developers who get qualified apps submitted to BlackBerry App World and approved to prior to launch will be first in line to receive a BlackBerry PlayBook from RIM. Stay tuned for more details."

Go figure.

Crackberry showed us this morning that RIM's Founder and Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis showed off a live Playbook at the Adobe MAX conference.

This SDK enables developers to quickly and easily create AIR applications for the BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet using Adobe's powerful, familiar and industry-leading development tools. BlackBerry PlayBook is the world’s first tablet to be built from the metal up to run Flash Player 10.1 and Adobe AIR applications in a fully integrated, fully optimized fashion.
 
Adobe AIR developers can start building their applications today for BlackBerry PlayBook and will be able to start submitting their AIR applications for BlackBerry PlayBook to BlackBerry App World by end of this year.
 
The BlackBerry Tablet OS SDK for Adobe AIR, along with the BlackBerry PlayBook simulator, are both currently available in beta and can be downloaded for free from www.blackberry.com/developers/tabletos.

Boy would this make me happy. Rumors are circling that the BlackBerry 9800 may launch on the AT&T network around August 15, 2010. It's interesting that Research in Motion has been dropping little hints in the twitter world and their Blog that BlackBerry 6 is ready to see the light of day. We assume that the slider will be the first BlackBerry device to be sporting the new OS and if you have seen the videos you know it's going to be a real treat.

This will be RIM's first touchscreen with a slide out keyboard device, which suits me perfectly fine. For those who love touchscreen devices but may get in a jam with typing out long e-mails, the 9800 slider will be a perfect fit. What about you guys? Is this the device you have been waiting for ? Is it a suitable competitor to the Incredible, iPhone, and Droid X? Or does it even need to be considered a competitor?

Time will tell but chime in.
