Mute Key Problem

I was using the mute key to put my Curve into standby mode for the last few weeks but within the last few days, it no longer works. I press and hold the key for the 1-2 seconds like always and nothing happens. I don't have a Blackberry holster to put it in (which I might need to go get).

Any suggestions?
