Small problem I could use help with

I recently upgraded my 8700c from 4.1 to 4.2, with 4.1 when my keyboard was locked I could just double click the track wheel instead of the whole * + phone button deal. Now that I have upgraded to 4.2 its not letting me do this, when I try it just gives me the prompt to do the * + phone button keystroke. Is there a option somewhere to turn this back on or is it something that 4.2 just stuck us with and we have to deal with it?

Any insight to this problem would be greatly appreciated.
