It’s kind of a quirky title and had you not seen the picture here you probably would have thought he was crazy. Maybe he is, but having known him for awhile, I know one thing for a certainty. He is driven to be the best. Amir Music is a talented gifted theme developer that has put ingenuity to good use. He let me sit down with him.
Are you a Mac or PC ?
I am a PC user for two reasons. One being that Theme Builder only work on a PC, and second would be that they are a lot cheaper then Mac’s. Although, would definitely love to have Mac and hoping to have one donated to me.
Give me three words to describe you besides really, great designer?
Honest, Confident, Teamplayer
You have had a variety of different themes with different types of looks. Where do you get your inspiration?
To be honest, I am not even sure exactly. I, in general,~ spend lots of time on the Internet browsing and looking for something cool, so I would stick with Internet being a number one source of the ideas. I, in particular, like graphic designs and related stuff, so any site with such content is where I like to hang out. I just love what “kids” could do with some of these images, unbelievable. However, no particular answer here should be the right answer.
Hardest device to develop themes~for?
This definitely should go to older devices, meaning any BlackBerry having OS 4.3 or below. The reason for this is simply that new Theme Builder is not compatible for older models and workarounds are needed to be made. However, even with workarounds there are still some backend issues. I would suggest all BlackBerry owners to upgrade their devices.

What’s the hardest part about making a BlackBerry Theme?
For me personally that would be an “idea”. This is where I struggle the most and where I spent most of my time. Sometimes, I will go days until I get one. Once I got the idea, putting pieces together is the easy part.
You seem to always be working. What do you do to unwind?
I love what I do (otherwise wouldn’t be doing so) so no need to “unwind”. However, I do love watching movies and often you will see me in cinemas (weekends). I also tend to play some online gaming when I have time. All in all my day is consisted of working and more working.
We all see the economy is~a mess right now. Has it changed your life in anyway in the last 6 months or in anyway in the foreseeable future?
I see effect same as everyone else. Now is even worse as my spouse just got laid off. I am still managing to keep my ends but I have to thank Themes4BB for their support. At this point I am afraid but I see chaos coming to us. I do hope that Obama will move his promises a little faster so we would start seeing some changes happening around us, otherwise it is not looking good. I am afraid just to even think about it.
What’s playing in your Ipod or MP3 player right now?
Even though I have a few gigs of music, I don’t listen to it except when I am in gym. Usually that would be some Linkin Park, Akon, and some 50 Cent. Linkin Park is good for treadmill.
I usually use it more to watch Podcast and those would consist of some Photoshop tutorials.
Last good movie you have seen?
As I mentioned earlier, I do go to cinemas often so I have seen pretty good number of movies. There were some good movies but nothing worth mentioning. Last really good movie that I’ve seen was Transformers and I can’t wait for the new one.

Worse job you have ever had?
Construction would fall under this question. I had it for three days way back when I was younger, and said to myself - never again. Way too dirty for my taste. I will leave that to the people that like that kind of stuff. I will stick to my computer for now.
What would you tell inspiring theme developers who are just starting out?
Every beginning is hard. First step is to join Themes4BB. Second is to jump into Theme Builder and start playing around as that is the best training you can get. Of course, in moments when something doesn’t work well (I’ve seen plenty), come and post question over at Themes4bb.com and one of the great developers will help you out.
What part of the country are you in?
I am in Central New York, Utica is the city.
What time period would you have loved to have lived in?
I think this is good as it is. I don’t complain much. I am not one of those people that are/is obsessed with past or the future, I just like it the way it is.
What’s your ideal vacation?
I can only say one word “beach”. Nothing can make me happier then sunny beach with cold Corona in my hand. I guess being here in cold weather most of the year does it’s job. I can’t stand it any longer.
What’s one goal you want to accomplish in 2009?
Goal for this year is to fully establish Music’s BlackBerry as a business entity and to expand it over to another market such as iPhone devices as well as G1.
Thanks for the interview Amir. We will definitely be checking back in with you.
