can not retrieve messages??

I get this messages when I receive an mms message. Tells me" can not retrieve message" and of course I hit retrieve now and I receive it . But its such a pain, it takes to long to retrieve or I have to hit retrieve now two or three times. Why do I get this message? And is there anything I could do 2 my phone to avoid getting this message?
