Focus Icon Help

Okay, so I am well on my way to making my own themes for my BB Curve, but how the heck do I make a "focus" icon if I want to create my own icons? What am I missing?? I have looked all over the place for an answer to this question and can't seem to find it anywhere. I tend to like the ICON themes and have just created 2 of my own, but have had to use already made icons. Please, someone must be able to tell me.
