Risks if upgrade OS?

My BB is a work device sychronised with a wireless network. I currently have the OS 4.1 and I want to have the OS 4.2.x. If I upgrade will I loose some data or setting??? I do not want my device to do not work as well after installing 4.2.
Are you aware of any risks?
