I like Opera Mini, Note2Self, GridMagic and BBSmart.

Must have is the google maps... works great with the built in gps.

Free must have's - Mini Monitor (tracks your usage if you don't have an unlimited plan), Google Maps (much better than the default), Beyond411 Search, Viigo (tho I tend to use it's companion, Google Reader, on my laptop most often)

Not Free must have's - Jivetalk (multi-messenger), BBTask Pro! (task management), BB Smart!!
If you're looking at aplications you have to pay for, definitely don't buy any that don't offer a trial. There are many I've read about, seen screen captures, etc, but when I tested them out, they weren't for me.

Themes are really a matter of personal taste but one that I won't live without now is the new RIM BB Dimension Today Plus. There are a ton of great creative themes here... but for a nice clean, professional theme that combines both today & zen ... RIM got this one right!

The "must have apps" have a lot to do with what you are using your BB for but I think everyone could benefit from one of the PocketDay apps and MyAlarm, which everyone could potentially also use. Viigo is the best feed reader in my opinion. As far as browsers go, I just set Google search as my home page on the native browser. I know a lot of people like Opera Mini, but I personally didn't like it all that much yet others swear by it. BB messanger is great if you know others with a BB and want to get in touch or just chatting with other BB owners is fun too! If you travel a lot or need to find addresses, TeleNav is good but I think Garmin is better. Tunebite is a great music app if you have most of your songs from iTunes.
