Can't install BB Desktop software... :(

Hi all, I'm new here, and a brand new BB user. I'm trying to install the software on my computer so I can manage my BB easier but I'm about to pull my hair out. I keep getting the dreaded Internal Error 2738, which I have searched and searched on and found several fixes and so forth but they all seem to be for VISTA. I am not running Vista. I'm on an XP machine and it's still giving me the errors. I tried all the fixes: downloading the VBasic from Microsoft, re-registering the dll file (which didn't work as it doesn't seem to exist on my machine), and finally, downloading the most recent version of the software directly from BB's website (which took about 2.5 hours). I try to open THAT file and it's corrupted too (but throws a different error). I really don't know what to do and it's very upsetting as I want to start syncing up my phone and computer (and more than anything start playing with themes!!!). Please someone tell me you can help me!!
