So I have a 8800 on ATT with 7 contacts in my messenger list but when I tried to add my wife (she just bought a Verizon 8830) the contact forever stays "pending." I double checked that her email info is correct, and tried adding her with an alternate email address, no luck. Same with her phone, I show pending on hers. Once and a while we have problems texting eachother but I have absolutely no issues with any other contact.
Any thoughts? Anyone know about service books?
Thanks,
DjB

To get the basics out of the way, you and your wife both have data plans, right? One for each phone, not one for both? If so, have you tried adding by pin? (In bbm click menu>add contact>highlight "use once" and click menu>add by pin>enter the pin>menu>continue>follow the prompts. Have you tried adding contacts other than your wife AFTER you failed to add your wife?

We got it last night. Yes, we both have data plans and her phone is new. PIN messaging works.
I had to create a blackberry email x@vzw.blackberry.net and then after that I had to upload service books.
Got it to work but was a major PIA. Still not sure about these service books but I give up now that we're on BB messenger.

I doubt the BB email addy had anything to do with it. It was the service books I'm sure. The service books are what tells your BB what it can and can't do. Sometimes things will muck up or disappear, and resending your service books are the way to go.
To resend your service books:
Options>Advanced Options>Host Routing Table>Menu Button>Register Now
