that really helped thanks. Can you answer me though, is it extra to send message this way? I saw couldn't find the answer to that. My hubby and i are on the family plan with tmobile, and both have the unlimited messaging service, are we covered? I do not want to sign up for it and then find out i have a bill that is like $400 or something!

i'm seding blackberry messages with my brother and he says he
has no dataplan at all. it's included in his blackberry contract.
don't know exactly how it is with your contract with t-mobile.
i'm on blackberry enterprise where alle my traffic is included.
so i can't take that as a real guideline.

Pin messaging uses the RIM data network, which requires a BB data plan to access. If your BB data plan is limited and you go over your limit you will be charged for additional data. You have an unlimited bb data plan right? If so, no extra charges. Pin messaging counts as data and has nothing to do with SMS messages.
Too my knowledge, if you don't have a BB data plan --- No Pins. But I've been known to be wrong. Maybe someone will chime in and comment as well.

yes you need a bb plan to do anything over their network. but that's
what we have our berries for, isn't it? ;-)
but i think you don't need any additional data plan or messaging packages
for sending pins. my brother was never charged and has only unlimited
email traffic over BIS. only mail attachments are excluded.

for the record, I'm on tmo, for unlimited sms/mms/"text messages" you pay $5.
for pin messaging, web-browsing on your bb, the unlimited dataplan is $19 per device.
these are in addition to your minutes plan.
