View Full Version : Holstered/Unholstered ?

I am new, and have only had my BB for a few days, and I see in profile settings were you are able to change ring tones, that there are two blocks, for holstered and unholstrered, what is this?

How do you holster your BB, or is this for an actual holster, is that what that little hole at the bottom of the BB is for?

The hole at the bottom is the mic, that pics up your voice. The holster setting is for using the bb case or holster that has the magnet, that locks the keypad and turns off the screen. When I holster my bb, I really cant hear it ring, so my holster setting is vibrate.

Holstered / Unholstered refers to the case for the BB. Within the case is a small magnet that will turn off the screen on your BB when you put it in. In addition you can set a specific profile for holstered/unholstered. For example when my BB is in it's case (holstered) I have the ringer on loud, because I care mine in my pocket. When it is out of the case (unholstered) it is on normal because it is most likely sitting on my desk.

Wouldn't a magnet be bad for the phone though? I guess if its small enough it could not hurt, but if you had an SD card in I would think that would be bad.

That's a good question about the card. I have to imagine RIM factored that in when they designed this. Needless to say, I have not had a problem with my card so far.

I keep my curve in the BB case all the time, and have even put it in backwards at times. My SD card is fine...haven't had any problems. I really like the magnetic case.

Do any of you use a skin and the case? or just the case? I thought about getting a clip case but just bought one of the slim rubber skins for now.

A really good question. I did not know about that there was such a setting. I have bb case and now I see why i have been missing calls not really thinking about the vibration.

I like the holster idea its an easy way for me to put my phone on vibrate before class quickly without hitting any buttons.
